If I’m adding a movie to my Netflix queue, I’ve already decided not to buy the DVD. I’m adding it because it looks mildly interesting and I’d like to watch it sometime. If I can’t add it to Netflix, I’ll just forget about it and probably never see it.
This is a point I meant to make earlier. If I can’t add something to my queue, I’m probably going to forget about it and never get around to watching it. And if I never watch it, the odds of me purchasing it remain steady at 0.00%.
And I love Marco’s phrase “plastic discs of hostility”. It’s hard to imagine a more appropriate description of DVDs today.
