MTV, in announcing a new partnership with RealNetworks, is dumping Microsoft’s URGE store. This really comes as no surprise, since Microsoft is treating PlaysForSure like a red-headed stepchild in favor of it’s Zune Marketplace. Still, MTV notes that while the Urge brand will ultimately disappear, many of Urge’s elements will live on in Rhapsody America.
In other words, the new partnership, Rhapsody America, will struggle to be a second- or third tier-player in the digital music arena. Awesome plan, guys.
